Why 'Impossible' Is Just a Word
There’s a quote I keep coming back to: “They didn’t know it was impossible, so they did it.” Mark Twain really nailed it, didn’t he?
What gets me about that line is how it flips our usual thinking on its head. So often, we let fear, logic or other people’s opinions hold us back. But sometimes, the only reason something feels impossible is because we’ve decided it is. And once we stop doing that, things start to shift.
1. Self-belief is underrated (and overdue)
Think about Roger Bannister. Everyone said the human body couldn’t run a mile in under four minutes, until he went and did exactly that. Once the mental barrier was broken, others followed. Why? Because belief is contagious. It’s not just fluff. It fuels action. If you believe you can do it, you’re already closer than you think.
2. Dream big, even if others don’t get it
There will always be people who roll their eyes or call your ideas unrealistic. Steve Jobs had plenty of those around him. But he didn’t stop because someone thought he was being too much. Thank goodness for that. So if your ideas feel a bit wild or ahead of their time, brilliant. Keep going. You don’t need everyone to get it, just yourself.
3. Perseverance is more important than perfection
I always think about J.K. Rowling’s story. Single mum, stacks of rejections, and still she kept writing. That persistence changed her life, and ours. So much brilliance is buried under self-doubt or waiting for the right time. But the truth is, showing up again and again often matters more than getting it perfect.
Here’s the truth
The biggest limits are usually the ones in our own heads. But once you start pushing past them, even a little, you realise impossible is just a word someone made up. And you don’t have to keep carrying it around.
So let me ask:
What’s your version of impossible?
And what would happen if you stopped believing it?
Need a hand turning that big idea into action?
Whether it’s a tech tangle or a dream you don’t know how to start, I’m here to help.
Let’s chat and figure it out together!
